CLIMATE SCIENCE TRANSLATED

Comedians and Climate Scientists Collide to Communicate the Climate Crisis

Climate Science Translated is a comedy project that translates the science behind the climate crisis into something funny, focusing on key issues through humour. We have been the PR agency to promote its UK and US video launches featuring a mix of talent, including climate scientists Dr. Fredi Otto, Prof Mark Maslin and Prof Michael Oppenheimer and comedians Nish Kumar, Jo Brand and David Cross.

Can humour be the silver bullet for climate communication?

In the UK, We commissioned national polling research to unveil headline statistics such as 75% of the public don’t believe governments are doing enough to tackle the climate crisis; less than 2% of the British public can name a climate scientist; and a staggering 92% of climate scientists surveyed and 71% of the public are worried about their children’s future. Armed with this research, we then shared the videos with national media.

For our US roll-out, we strategically planned our media campaign to achieve maximum exposure within the limited time we had to work with the talent.

Results

In the UK, we achieved extensive coverage for Climate Science Translated, with over 1 billion impressions online and in UK broadcast media, in titles such as Good Morning Britain, Forbes, The New Statesman, Business Insider, LBC and a big climate comedy special in the New York Times.

For our rollout in the US, we earned an online exclusive with Guardian US and a broadcast exclusive on CBS Morning News – one of the biggest US morning shows. In addition, we managed to secure an influential op-ed from Prof Michael Oppenheimer in The Hill – one of the most influential political media publications, discussing climate policy.

"Having worked with PR agencies for over 25 years, I have always found it tricky to find an agency that truly reflected my values. Kibbo Kift Agency are a clear exception. If you are working in climate or social justice and want a team that deliver, do give them a call."
